How Long Will My Project Take

A very commonly asked question by our clients is ‘how long will it take for my project to be complete?’. This is a reasonable question but there is no straightforward answer. There are so many factors that need to be considered in the timeline of seeing your project from start to finish.

So how long will your project take?

The design process is the first stage of your project and this generally takes 6 to 9 months in total. In some cases, this can take up to 12 months if your design needs to go through the town planning process. However, the good news for some is that not every project requires a town planning permit. Before you start your project ask your architect if town planning permit will be required. A clever design can help you avoid this process altogether and get you into your dream home sooner than you think.

Some common factors that can affect the timeline of your project:

-          Council approvals

-          Heritage overlays

-          Financing

-          Size and type of project – is it a small extension or a completely new build?

-          Client amendments

-          Weather

-          Contractor issues

Once the design is complete, next comes the build process and this can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on the size and complexity of your build.

The right architect will make sure there is clear, open communication with their clients with regards to time frames and expectations. They should leave you feeling confident that your perfect home can be achieved within realistic timelines.
